Experience
Iryna's Nails is managed by Iryna Giblett (“Irena”), a qualified International Nail Technician with more than 9 years experience.

Before moving to Sweden to live with her English husband in 2006, Iryna had nail salons in Lviv and Kiev. As her salons grew they attracted some famous clients and a strong reputation for both quality and design within the very competitive nail industry in Ukraine – an industry that is estimated to have more than 20,000 nail technicians.

This recognition led Iryna to being invited to be one of only four Judges at the Ukrainian Nail Championships, a position she has held every year since it started in 2003. That this event has produced winners of the World Cup nails competition is recognition of both the quality and creativity of the Ukrainian nail technicians.

Education
Iryna is a qualified International Nail Instructor with diplomas from the manufacturers Christrio (USA) and Kinetics Professional Nail Systems (USA). There are approximately 50 Instructors in Sweden out of an estimated 3000 nail technicians. Being an Instructor allows Iryna to train new nail technicians and award international diplomas.

Living in Kiev, Iryna was fortunate to be able to study at the world-famous Studio Victory nail school. The school has produced many international competition winners during the last 10 years, including Elena Maltseva. Maltseva is one of the great international competitors during the past 10 years and is responsible for developing many new nail art techniques.

Continuous education is very important for Iryna as she is always striving to perfect her skills. Every year she attends 3 or 4 coaching sessions and being fluent in Russian is able to study nail art with some of the best nail artists in the world. During the last 24 months Iryna has received personal coaching from Galina Starenko, Olga Erokhina and Victoria Klopotova all of whom are multiple international competition winners in French and various nail art categories.

Prior to entering the beauty world, Iryna studied for 6 years at the Universities of Smolensk (Russia) and Lviv (Ukraine). She is a qualified microbiologist and also has a diploma as a teacher in both chemistry and biology. Iryna is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian and English, and is semi-fluent today in Swedish.

Training School - Developing Nail Art Skills in Sweden
Until recently, there was no nail school in Sweden that specialized in the area of nail art. Some schools offer nail decoration training but this is normally limited to one day and for new nail technicians. Nail art can be created using hand or air-brush painting, coloured gels and coloured acrylics, and can include other materials such as gold leaf, crushed seashells, Swarovski stones etc. Becoming skilled in any one of the four main nail art techniques requires good initial education and then hundreds of hours practice, followed by regular practice to maintain the skills.

It's a common mistake to think of nail art as only having extreme colours and very long nails. Good nail art is adapted to the audience, so for clients who prefer natural-look nails a simple white design on one or two nails can add a degree of sophistication, but for magazine photographs or competition work the designs need to be more detailed and extreme.

Iryna's Nail Academy held it's first nail art training in Stockholm on September 13 and 14. Courses are scheduled during the next months in Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Oslo and Helsinki. Advanced and Master classes will be offered during 2009. Students who pass the examination will be issued with a diploma from Iryna’s Nail Academy. Our objective is to create an international reputation for this school and our students.

The Academy also offers training for people who would like to become nail technicians. The training consists of both theoretical and practical work to rigorous standards. Students who pass the final examinations will be awarded international diplomas.

Nail Stylist - Magazines and Photographic Work
Iryna is a highly creative individual who lives and breathes nail art. After working in the salon or studying Swedish, she often spends several hours in the evening and time at weekends creating new nail designs or practicing her skills. This enthusiasm desperately needed an outlet that we found in producing photographs for magazines.

The first magazine to publish our photographs in May 2007 was Sweden’s leading nail magazine 'Naglar i Norden' (Nails in Scandinavia) that is published by Anette Claesson. Anette introduced artificial nails to Sweden in 1985 and has continued to be influential ever since. Iryna’s nail design photographs have appeared in every issue since then and she has become a regular contributor and the resident nail art specialist.

During the last twelve months Iryna’s stunning nail designs and photography have been published in five countries and she has been awarded six front covers – a remarkable and unique achievement in such a short time. Today, Iryna is perceived by many of the industry leaders as one of the best and most innovative nail artists and stylist in Europe.

During the last 18 months Iryna has managed to develop a style that is unique, contemporary and often brightly coloured. She enjoys abstract form and continuously experiments with techniques, colours and different materials. We are currently working on our next nail design collection that is due for release at the end of the year.

The photographs are produced in Kiev by Viktor Medinsky of Medinsky Studio’s and in Sweden by Iryna’s husband, Bob Giblett.
